The mushroom contains the psychoactive compound psilocin. Its possession and cultivation is illegal in most countries. The plates are ascending, the stalk is bare and the trama is disc-shaped. It leads a saprotrophic lifestyle, and is native mainly to Europe and North America. Its psychoactive effects are similar to LSD, although much weaker, with side effects including dilated pupils, palpitations and hypersensitive reflexes.
