The leaves are heart-shaped, its edges are serrated, and they rarely grow larger than 7 cm. The underside of the leaves are greenish, mostly smooth with reddish, beard-like hairs in the vein axils. Its yellowish-white flowers are produced in clusters of 6-13, each attached to a smooth-edged, elongated bract. Its branches can grow from the base of the trunk, the bark of which is grayish-brown and finely fissured. The crown can be a rounded oval shape or pyramidal. The flowers have five parts, with five sepals and five petals. Its fruit is a small green ball, which, upon ripening, falls off spinning together with the bract. It mainly inhabits shady forests in mountainous and hilly areas.
