The leaves range from 20mm, up to 40mm, and they are deeply lobed, with sharp serrated edges, dark green from the above, but paler underneath. In the flowers, it only has one stigma and not more, with the fruit being the berry. The fruit usually contains one seed, but some include up to five. They are similar to berries, they taste delicious and commonly used in jams, jellies, syrups and wine. The white, or occasionally light pink petals are also edible, usually used in salads and in spinee, a medieval English pottage. It has been used as medicine for cardiac insufficiency with the tradition of herbalism, and in pre-modern Europe, it was used as a symbol of hope, against witches and vampires; they believed it to have supernatural forces and could stop witches. Often used as a hedge plant for uses in agriculture and its twigs are slender and brown, and it\u2019s good firewood. It is often pollinated by various insects, which include but are not limited to bees, midges and the list goes on.
