8. Seven-spot ladybird / Coccinella Septempunctata
The 7-spot ladybird is one of the most common ladybirds in Europe.
Its elytra is red, punctuated with three and a half black spots on each wing. It has a black
thorax, six short legs and a head with white spots on either side of the eyes. Its size can range from 7.6 mm even to 12.7 mm.
Its nutritions are mainly from aphids, some beetles’ and butterflies’ larvae and eggs.
The 7-spot ladybird inhabits a broad ecological range, you can find it in meadows, fields, gardens, forests and in many more places.
This species has some unique skills, for example it can secrete a fluid from the joints in their
legs, if it feels in danger. Its bright red color also warns the predators of their toxicity.
The ladybug has been designated the national insect of Finland. It’s also the official state
insect of five different states in the US. In Hungary they are the protagonists of popular nursery rhymes and poems.

8. Hétpettyes katicabogár / Coccinella Septempunctata
A hétpettyes katicabogár az egyik leggyakoribb katicafaj Európában. Szárnyfedője vörös, mindkét szárnyán három és fél fekete folt található. Feje, torához hasonlóan fekete, de mindkét testtáján látható két fehér folt. Mérete 7,6 mm-től 12,7 mm-ig terjedhet.
Tápláléka elsősorban levéltetvekből, egyes bogarak és lepkék lárváiból és tojásaiból áll.
A katica sokféle élőhelyen megtalálható: réteken, mezőkön, kertekben, erdőkben és még számos helyen lakhat.
A faj különlegessége, hogy folyadékot tud kiválasztani a lábai ízületeiből, ha veszélyben érzi magát, melynek élénk vörös színe a ragadozókat figyelmezteti mérgező hatására.
A katicabogarat Finnország nemzeti rovarának választották és az Egyesült Államok öt különböző államának hivatalos rovara is.
